A fedora worn by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom has fetched a staggering $630,000 (£487,000) at auction, underscoring its iconic status in film history. The brown felt hat, specifically created for the 1984 film, was sold on Thursday in Los Angeles.
The hat features a more tapered crown compared to the one from the original Raiders of the Lost Ark. Crafted by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London, it bears the gold monogrammed initials “IJ” inside. It was also used during additional filming at George Lucas’s visual effects facilities and was worn by Ford’s stunt double, Dean Ferrandini, who passed away last year. The sale included rare photos of Ferrandini in the hat.
The auction also featured other notable movie memorabilia. An imperial scout trooper helmet from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi sold for $315,000 (£243,000), while a light-up wand used by Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban attracted $53,550 (£41,400). Additionally, a suit worn by Daniel Craig in Skyfall fetched $35,000 (£27,000).
Brandon Alinger, Propstore’s COO, expressed pride in connecting fans with these historic items. The Indiana Jones hat’s price more than doubled the $300,000 (£232,000) achieved by a similar fedora in 2021, highlighting its continued allure among collectors.
