Trump: Israel Agrees to Terms for 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire, Calls on Hamas to Accept Final Deal

Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced, adding that the proposal now rests with Hamas.

In a Truth Social post, Trump stated, “We will work with all parties to end the war. The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring peace, will deliver this final proposal. I hope Hamas takes this deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

Trump did not detail the conditions but emphasized that Israel was ready to move forward. Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon echoed this, saying the country is “absolutely” prepared to halt hostilities, but stressed that Hamas remains uncommitted. “We are putting pressure on Hamas. If they don’t come to the table, the only option will be more military pressure,” Danon said. “The war ends when the hostages are home.”

About 50 Israeli hostages are still believed to be held in Gaza, with at least 20 thought to be alive.

Trump’s statement precedes a high-stakes meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week, during which the former president said he would be “very firm.” “I think we’ll have a deal next week. Netanyahu wants to end this,” he added.

Talks continue in Washington, where Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer is meeting with U.S. officials, including special envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance.

Negotiations remain stalled, according to a senior Hamas official, despite renewed mediation efforts from Egypt and Qatar. Hamas continues to demand a permanent ceasefire and full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Israel insists the war will only end with Hamas’s total dismantling.

Trump’s announcement comes as Israel intensifies operations in northern Gaza, ordering evacuations and carrying out airstrikes. At least 20 Palestinians were killed Monday in an Israeli strike on a seafront café, according to local medics.

Since Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which killed around 1,200 people, over 56,000 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

The Israeli military also said it is investigating reports of civilian casualties near U.S.- and Israeli-backed aid distribution sites operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Over 170 aid groups, including Oxfam and Save the Children, have called for the controversial GHF to be shut down, accusing Israeli forces of “routinely” firing on Palestinians near aid centers.
