Videos circulating on social media appear to capture the moment a federal immigration officer opened fire during a confrontation in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning, shortly after 10:25 a.m. local time.
Footage from multiple angles shows a maroon SUV blocking a residential stretch of Portland Avenue, where a group of people, believed to be protesters, were gathered along the pavement. Several law enforcement vehicles were also present in the area.
According to the videos reviewed, immigration agents approached the stationary SUV and ordered the woman behind the wheel to exit the vehicle. One agent is seen pulling at the driver’s side door handle, while another positions himself near the front of the SUV.
As the vehicle suddenly attempted to drive away, one of the agents discharged his firearm. Three gunshots can be heard in the footage. Moments later, the SUV veered off course and collided with a parked car along the street.
It remains unclear from the available video how close the agent was to the vehicle at the time or whether he was struck as the SUV moved forward.
Former US President Donald Trump addressed the incident on Truth Social, claiming that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer was “viciously run over” during the encounter. He added that the officer survived and is currently recovering in hospital. Trump also blamed the “Radical Left” for what he described as ongoing threats and attacks against law enforcement and ICE agents.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that the driver had been blocking the roadway when she was approached by a federal officer on foot. He stated that the woman then attempted to flee in her vehicle, prompting the sequence of events captured on video.
The incident has sparked renewed debate over immigration enforcement, protest activity, and the use of force by federal officers.
